SCHOOL CANCELLATION + INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

As outlined in the 2024-2025 FJECC Parent Handbook, it is our policy to generally follow the actions of the Brookline Public Schools with respect to weather-related school cancellations and delays.

If the Brookline Public School system has canceled school, FJECC will be closed as well. If Brookline has a delayed school start time, we will follow that plan. For example, if Brookline has a 1-hour delay, we will have no Early Morning program and all classes will begin at 9:00 am. If Brookline has a 2-hour delay, FJECC will begin at 10:00 am. The superintendent of the Brookline Public Schools is in contact with the appropriate civic authorities, who are best qualified to determine whether the safety of children, parents, and staff is at risk

We will do our best to post information regarding cancellations or delays on our website and social media, and you will receive a notification via email and/or text message from the school. For the most up-to-date information, we recommend checking the website for the Public Schools of Brookline or viewing local TV stations and their websites, where they directly announce school closings. FJECC does not contact radio and TV stations directly and therefore does not appear by name on such listings—you will have to listen or watch for Brookline Public Schools.

Extended Day Cancellation

If the weather worsens over the course of the morning during a school day, we may be forced to cancel the Afternoon Extended Day Programming. In that case, you would be notified to pick up your child at 1 pm. We realize that if the school must close it creates a difficult situation for working parents. We will make every effort to remain open unless we feel that safety is an issue.

Outdoor Clothing

As the temperatures continue to drop, please make sure your children have their warm outdoor gear and boots in school every day. Winter weather in New England is unpredictable, and we always want to make sure the children are as warm and comfortable as possible and are able to participate in the wonderful opportunities for learning and play in our Outdoor Classroom.

Lastly, we also ask that you label mittens, hats, boots, snow pants, and all clothing so that if any of these items should happen to go astray they can be placed in the appropriate cubby.
