EXTENDED DAY INFORMATION

Please direct all questions to Arielle Frangipane, Extended Day Program Director: afrangipane@tisrael.org

We are pleased to present Extended Day information for the 2023-2024 school year. Our goal is to create a fluid, natural structure for children and staff through the afternoon hours, while providing parents needed coverage. As always, we strive to find the proper balance of active time, structured learning time, and more open-ended learning time. We aim to accomplish this by creating an environment that remains structured to support positive learning and growth for all children although on a less rigid schedule than in the mornings.

What does Extended Day programming look like?

  • From 1:00-3:00 pm, children remain with their morning classroom group.  This period will include outside play, rest time, and a variety of indoor classroom activities.

  • For the most part, teachers remain with their children through 3:00 pm. Teachers taking breaks will be covered by other FJECC teachers on a consistent basis (for instance, the same teacher will cover the same classroom from week to week). Often this is planned within age cohorts. For instance, a Toddler teacher would likely cover Purple Room breaks, providing a familiar face for children who were previously enrolled in our toddler program. We will staff classrooms so that children will have at least one of their morning teachers with them through rest time and likely into the activity portion of Extended Day. This leads to fewer transitions for teachers and more continuity for everyone.

  • Curriculum will be developed by teachers according to the interests of the children and the teachers and with longer, project-based learning in mind. All children will have the opportunities to engage in learning around art, science, construction, cooking & gardening, music, storytelling, theater, etc.

  • Smaller group sizes allow us to provide more opportunities for groups of children to mix across classrooms and age groups throughout the year.
